There are so many incredible communities in the west end, and Parkdale is one of our favourites. This vibrant, multicultural neighbourhood is just a short commute from the city centre, yet it has a unique village feel that you won’t find anywhere else.

As real estate agents, we can’t help but admire the area’s gorgeous Victorian houses and majestic trees. That said, there’s so much more to Parkdale than its picturesque residential streets. Whether you’re moving to the neighbourhood or just looking to explore, you’ll find no shortage of places to go or things to do in Parkdale.

We couldn’t possibly create a complete list of fun things to do in Parkdale—there’s just too much going on. That said, here are a few of our favourite things to do in Parkdale.

1) Enjoy a coffee (or tea)

Our Favourite Cafes in Parkdale

When in Parkdale, caffeine lovers head to Capital Espresso. If you appreciate flavourful crema or perfectly-formed milk froth, you’ll love this bright cafe on Queen West. For great coffee, other Parkdale favourites include the Abbott and the Tempered Room.

If you’re more of a tea drinker, we recommend Kitten and the Bear. This little shop and tasting room is known for its jam and tea service, which features carefully-prepared teas and traditional French preserves.

2) Take the kids to Fuller Park

Parks in Parkdale

Albert Crosland Park—known to the locals as Fuller Park—is one of the most beloved green spaces in the Parkdale area. If you have little ones, you’ll instantly see the appeal.

This parkette, which sits just north of Queen West on Fuller Avenue, features play equipment that even very young children will enjoy. Most of the area is gated for safety, and new toys appear regularly. Put simply, this outdoor space is a great spot for families to come together, have fun, be social and one of our top things to do in Parkdale.

Quick tip: if you’re looking to change things up a bit, you should also check out Sorauren Park. This community hub offers beautiful space outside, a fantastic farmer’s market, and even outdoor movies in the summer. Though it’s technically located in Roncesvalles Village, it’s just a short jaunt away for most Parkdale families.

3) Check out the local cuisine

Best Restaurants in Parkdale

No list of fun things to do in Parkdale would be complete without a nod to local Parkdale restaurants. One of the best things about living in this diverse west end neighbourhood is the cuisine. Some of our top go-to eateries include Mother India and Tibet Kitchen (where you simply have to try the momos—savoury Tibetan dumplings that are guaranteed to keep you coming back).

Grand Electric is bound to become a fast favourite if you’re a taco fan—and who isn’t? You’ll find equally delicious fare at its nearby sister restaurant, Electric Mud BBQ. In short, Parkdale has something for every diner.

4) Pick up some new threads

Some of the Best Shopping in Parkdale

There are many amazing shopping districts in the west end, and Parkdale stands out as one of the most unique. We speak from experience. If you’re like us, you’ll love combing the racks in the eclectic shops along the neighbourhood’s stretch of Queen West.

For stylish women’s apparel, try Sylvie and Shimmy or Shopgirls. If vintage is more your thing, check out the carefully-curated selections at Three Fates. Klaxon Howl is a great spot for fashion-forward menswear, while North Standard Trading Post sells everything from high-quality snapback hats to camping gear and children’s clothing.

5) Relax with a drink

Best Bars in Parkdale

Sometimes, at the end of a long day, there’s nothing better than catching up with friends over a cold drink. Parkdale has an amazing selection of some of the best bars in Toronto. For many Parkdale residents, that means heading over the Rhino. This neighbourhood staple features a fantastic beer selection and a spacious back patio, making it the perfect bar to visit when the weather is nice.

Other Parkdale gems include PrettyUgly Bar (an intimate space where you’ll find creative cocktails) and Tennessee Tavern (which serves not only drinks, but some of the best Eastern European food around). Every watering hole in the neighbourhood is unique, so take a stroll down Queen West to find your new favourite haunt!
