Ready for a trip into this pet paradise?
Where dogs & strollers coexist in perfect harmony!
If you happen to take a leisurely stroll down Roncy (as locals affectionately refer to it), you’re bound to witness two common sights – dogs and baby strollers. Occasionally, you might even spot a dog happily nestled inside one of those strollers, relishing in the sights and sounds of this vibrant neighbourhood. In a world that sometimes struggles to strike a balance between accommodating our furry friends and catering to the needs of young families, Roncesvalles stands out as a place where this harmony is effortlessly maintained.
The definition of dog-friendly…
When it comes to dog-friendly neighbourhoods, Roncesvalles has undoubtedly mastered the art. This desirable west end pocket is located near iconic spots like High Park, the lakeshore and Sorauren Park, it’s the go-to destination for dog lovers, whether they’re proud owners of a canine companion or simply passionate about our four-legged friends. Roncy wears its dog-friendliness with pride, offering ample patio seating in its favourite local spots, making it a breeze to grab a meal while spending quality time with your furry friend. Walk down Roncy, and you’ll notice many businesses thoughtfully placing water bowls outside, ensuring your pup stays cool and hydrated. Whether you’re a dog owner or not, the sense of community in this neighbourhood ensures that our furry companions are always considered in our daily outings.

Scenic strolls all around….
If you’re a dog owner in the Roncesvalles neighbourhood, you’re in for a visual treat. Take a detour from the main strip and venture down the beautiful side streets, where you’ll encounter well-preserved historical homes. It’s like a walk through a living postcard, and who knows, you might even spot a ‘For Sale’ sign and decide to make this charming neighbourhood your forever home. Call us if you do!
If you’re on coffee break, get your coffee to go, and set off to explore this beautiful west end pocket. Stop by and say hi at the Sorauren off-leash dog park, and if your visit aligns with a Monday, check out the Sorauren Farmer’s Market. Walk the entire strip, from top to bottom, cross the Gardiner Expressway on the pedestrian bridge, and soak in the majestic panorama of the city. A dedicated boardwalk that runs along the shores of the lake offers a fantastic day out with your dog. But do be mindful of the geese – they’re not always the friendliest neighbours. Keep your dog on a leash and avoid disturbing the Canada Geese; they can be quite territorial. If you’re yearning to give your pup some off-leash time, there’s a small off-leash enclosure at the western edge of the boardwalk, and it’s the perfect place to make new friends, both furry and human.

Kennel cafe: a Roncy staple since 1998
One of our favourite destinations in Roncy is the Kennel Cafe, a quaint shop that has been a beloved staple in the neighbourhood since 1998. The shop surprises visitors with an impressive array of pet products, from holistic pet food to raw and dry options. What sets Kennel Cafe apart is the evident care and thoughtfulness behind every product on its shelves. If you can’t find what you need, a simple inquiry is met with a promise to do their best to order it for you. As pet lovers themselves, the folks at Kennel Cafe go the extra mile to make sure you and your furry friend are well taken care of. And here’s the cherry on top – they occasionally have rescue dogs available for adoption in the shop. So, if you’re on the lookout for a new bestie, a visit to Kennel Cafe might just be your heartwarming starting point.
Grooming shops galore!
For those moments when your dog or cat needs a nail trim or perhaps a fresh new look, Ellen’s Pet Care, located at the top of Roncy, readily accepts walk-ins for these services. Ellen is not just your run-of-the-mill groomer; she’s a professional with a knack for making your pet look and feel their best. But if you’re in the market for something more comprehensive, check out Dogs and Goddesses, just off the Roncy Strip on Sorauren. This women-owned business has a loyal clientele, an experienced staff, and a pet boutique to spoil your furbabies.
For those venturing further north on Dundas West, Wholesome Canine awaits, one of the favourite pet stores in the neighbourhood. Wholesome Canine specializes in all things wholesome, with a selection of products that have been carefully vetted and assessed by two very dedicated owners. The shop is led by a canine nutritionist and a canine behaviour specialist, offering not only nutritious advice but also customized training solutions. And as an extra treat, they occasionally have a Bowen therapy specialist on site. Bowen therapy, a light-touch therapy, works wonders in alleviating anxiety and depression in dogs. But if you’re in a hurry, head to the Pet Valu store located at the top of the strip, where you’ll find all the essential staples for pet owners, from leashes and collars to treats and toys.
